The effects of aging are inevitable and often the brow and forehead show the first signs of aging. Rejuvenation of the forehead is a commonly requested surgery because this area of the face is a major focal point of expression. When the forehead and eyebrows sag and worry lines appear on the forehead, between the brows or across the nose this may portray an appearance of anger, hostility, fatigue or other unintended emotions.
Some people even in their thirties may have faces that look older than their years. A tired, angry or sad expression may not reflect how you feel or how you want to look and it may be time for a consultation with your facial plastic surgeon.
During your consultation, your physician will evaluate your facial bone structure, underlying skin structure, brow position, eyelids, skin thickness, texture and elasticity as well as hairline position.
There are different approaches and techniques for a brow lift procedure and your physician will explain those to you and discuss the best options for you. A brow lift can also be combined with an eyelid lift or face lift for a more complete rejuvenated look.
A brow lift can be both functional and cosmetic. If your vision is being compromised by a sagging brow and eyelids, your eye doctor may be able to test your visual fields to show medical necessity.
After a brow lift, one can expect to have some swelling and bruising for approximately 10 days. The patient will be advised to keep their head elevated to reduce the swelling and cold compresses will help to further reduce the swelling. Normal activities can resume after two weeks. The facial plastic surgeon will provide instructions as to when an exercise program can be started.
