Billings Clinic Hosts Stupid Cancer Boot Camp

Cancer Seminar Empowers Young Adults Affected by Cancer

Young adults who have been affected by cancer are invited to attend a “Stupid Cancer” Boot Camp in Prescott Hall at Rocky Mountain College from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2013. Billings Clinic is hosting this event with support from other local healthcare providers, cancer support entities and Rocky Mountain College. This community event is open to the public, but directed at adults under 40 who are facing a cancer diagnosis. Spouses and/or support partners are also encouraged to attend. More than 72,000 adolescents and young adults learn they have cancer each year in the United States, yet there remains a significant support gap for this demographic and members of their family. Stupid Cancer, a national non-profit organization that empowers young adults affected by cancer, aims to fill this gap, providing assistance and guidance in navigating life outside of treatment. The half day seminar covers topics relevant to the lives of young adults affected by cancer, including workplace challenges, dating and relationships, fertility, and talking to your support team, including spouses and young children. Guest speakers throughout the day include former and current cancer patients and their families, care providers, counselors, and motivational speakers. No topics are considered off limits or too sensitive to be discussed. It is an opportunity to share experiences and concerns with others who are in the same situation. To register for the event, please contact Billings Clinic at 255-8440 or St. Vincent Healthcare at 238-6990.
