Billings Clinic to open two new major cardiac facilities
Cardiovascular Unit and John R. Burg MD Cardiac Center open houses slated for March 28 and 29

Billings, MT— Billings Clinic announces a new era of heart care with the opening of the John R. Burg MD Cardiac Center and the hospital’s new Cardiovascular Unit (CVU). The public is invited to attend two open houses to celebrate the opening of each facility and the philanthropy that helped fund the projects.

The open house for the hospital’s Cardiovascular Unit (CVU), formerly known as the Ambulatory Telemetry Unit (ATU), is scheduled for Friday, March 28 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a dedication at noon. Nearly tripling the space of the old unit from 10,000 square feet to 27,000 square feet, the new cardiovascular unit is now located on the third floor of the hospital, directly above the Intensive Care Unit (second floor) and the Emergency and Trauma Center (first floor). This shift in location provides optimal patient care for individuals recovering from a cardiac event, procedure, or surgery.

The John R. Burg MD Cardiac Center open house takes place Saturday, March 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a dedication at 11:45 a.m. Located on the fourth floor of the clinic building, adjacent to the Commons, this new 20,000-square-foot facility brings all specialized cardiac care to one floor and back into the main clinic, supporting greater interaction between key service lines such as primary care, surgery and the hospital. The new space includes additional exam and diagnostic testing rooms, a cardiac rehabilitation space nearly three times larger than its previous size and some of today’s most advanced technology in cardiac care.

The John R. Burg MD Cardiac Center is named after Dr. John Burg, whose transformational gift from he and his wife, Pat, will take cardiovascular medicine at Billings Clinic into the next thirty years. Dr. Burg is a retired Billings Clinic cardiologist who helped set the course for Billings Clinic’s efforts to bring the most advanced and specialized heart care to the state and region. Embracing the rapid technological advancement in his field, Dr. Burg and his partners brought new diagnostic and treatment methods to patients, including coronary artery angioplasty, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and pacemaker technology. Additionally, Dr. Burg spearheaded the development of Billings Clinic’s cardiac rehabilitation program. When Dr. Burg retired in 2006 after 33 years with Billings Clinic, he left a lasting legacy of clinical excellence, compassionate care and unwavering professionalism.

Today, Billings Clinic’s Cardiovascular team cares for patients through prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of heart disease. As the only Accredited Chest Pain Center in the region, patients are treated by a team of Billings Clinic emergency department physicians, cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and hospital medicine specialists working together with the dedicated care team to provide the best outcomes possible.

Patients will begin transitioning into the hospital’s new Cardiovascular Unit on Tuesday, April 1. Physicians and the cardiac care teams welcome patients to the new John R. Burg MD Cardiac Center Monday, March 31.
