Stroke Care
Unfortunately, a stroke - resulting from a lack of blood to the brain, or, in some cases, bleeding in the brain - can strike people of all ages. The good news is, stroke is preventable. Normal blood pressure and cholesterol as well as regular exercise can dramatically lessen your risk for stroke.
Stroke Risk Factors
- High Blood Pressure
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Carotid Artery Disease
- Smoking
- Family history of strokes
- Having had a prior stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack)
- High Cholesterol
- Obesity
What can you do to help reduce your risk? Pay attention to high blood pressure and cholesterol. Follow a low fat and low cholesterol diet. Exercise can help lower your cholesterol and dramatically lessen your risk for stroke. Weight management can help lower your blood pressure as well as following a low-salt diet. Pay attention to the following:
