Billings Clinic receives top awards for commitment to quality care

Billings, MT— Billings Clinic is one of three hospitals in Montana to receive Mountain-Pacific Quality Health Foundation’s top award, the Quality Achievement Award. Billings was also one of two hospitals to earn Mountain-Pacific’s Enduring Excellence in Quality Award, which was given to commemorate Mountain-Pacific’s 40th year and to acknowledge those facilities that have consistently received recognition for their commitment to quality during past award years.

Mountain-Pacific began the Quality Awards Program back in 2003 to recognize hospitals for their commitment to demonstrating and maintaining exemplarily improvements in patient care.

Quality awards—both the Quality Achievement Award and the Commitment to Quality Award— recognize winning hospitals for their dedication to ensuring that patients receive high-quality care in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical infection prevention.

The 2013 Hospital Quality Awards reflect continued expectations of patient/family engagement as well as top performance on quality indicators and system changes, as promoted by today’s health care industry. Strong leadership support is also considered, since it is vital for achieving and sustaining excellent patient safety and improvements in overall patient care.

“Today there’s an increasing emphasis on the patient’s experience,” said Christy Fuller, director of the Montana office. “Patients expect to be seen as valued members of their health care team. They expect to be listened to if they have concerns about contracting a hospital-acquired infection. They expected to weigh in on decisions affecting their care. Hospitals too are looking to patients to become engaged in their care and to speak up about the decisions that affect them. The hospitals that receive quality awards are demonstrating a strong commitment to quality care and to alleviating and possibly eliminating certain instances of harm,” she said.

“We thank Mountain-Pacific for supporting and recognizing health care organizations that want to make quality and safety their key priorities,” said Nicholas Wolter, MD, CEO of Billings Clinic. “At Billings Clinic, these awards recognize the work and dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff and inspire us to continue our work that focuses on bringing our highest level of care to each of our patients.”

The 2013 award ceremony took place during MHA...An Association of Health Care Providers’ Annual Convention and Trade Show in Billings, September 25th – 27th.
