Billings, MT— Billings Clinic Foundation announces that the 2013 Classic will feature recording artist and film star Jordin Sparks performing at the Alberta Bair Theater on Saturday, August 24, 2013. Proceeds from the 2013 Classic benefit a major expansion and renovation of Surgical Services at Billings Clinic.
Jordin Sparks took the world by storm in 2007 winning the 6th season of American Idol. Later that same year, her first self-titled album went platinum selling over 2 million copies worldwide. The first three singles of the “Jordin Sparks” album soared to the top five, with the album’s second single “No Air” selling four million digital downloads. Jordan’s second album release in 2009 debuted on the Billboard Album chart at number seven, with the album’s “Battlefield” single reaching the top ten on the Billboard Singles Chart. The album’s second single, “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play),” became Jordin’s first number one hit.
Sparks has toured with Alicia Keys, The Jonas Brothers, New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. She performed for Presidents Bush and Obama, won two Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, one American Music Award, one People’s Choice Award and was nominated for two MTV Awards and one Grammy.
Last year, Jordin made her feature film debut in the Sony Pictures film Sparkle, with the late Whitney Houston and is looking forward to the release of her next feature film, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, produced by Alicia Keys. Last month, Jordin was again featured in Peoples Magazine’s MOST BEAUTIFUL issue. She has also graced the covers of Shape, Ebony, Women’s Running Magazine and was the youngest ever to have graced the cover of Redbook Magazine.

This year’s Classic, chaired by retired general, thoracic, and vascular Billings Clinic surgeon Dr. Paul Grmoljez, will support a 13.5 million dollar expansion and renovation of Billings Clinic’s operating room facilities to meet the growing needs of the Billings community, accommodate today’s sophisticated technology and provide a more efficient work and care flow on behalf of patients.
Currently, over 45 Billings Clinic surgical specialists in 14 specialties operate in 10 rooms, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The current operating rooms were built over 30 years ago with the last major renovation 12 years ago.
“Surgical services are at the heart and soul of every advanced medical center. When I joined Billings Clinic in 1977, we had only four operating rooms,” recalls Dr. Grmoljez. “A few years later, we built the present rooms, which, with a few updates along the way, were my home for over thirty years. The time has come to create another state of the art facility that will serve our patients for the next 30 years, and it’s my distinct honor to be a part of the efforts to help raise funds for this important cause.”
Once complete, the new surgical services facility will expand to include a total of 43,000 square feet, which will result in a total of 13 state-of-the-art operating rooms, sized to meet the demands of today’s technology. The Operating Room expansion and renovation will allow all aspects of surgery, from presurgical to postoperative care, to take place on the same floor. This enhancement will decrease presurgical waiting times and provide a seamless delivery of care for each surgical case. Expanded family waiting areas, which allow for dedicated private space for surgeons to visit with family after surgical procedures, are also included in the surgery renovation.
