Community Medical Center and Billings Clinic Open Radiation Oncology Center

The first radiation oncology patients began receiving treatment at the new Community Radiation Oncology Center on July 16th.

Community Medical Center has long been known as a leader in health care for Western Montana. Honoring our commitment to provide the highest quality care, Community has partnered with Billings Clinic and invested $8.5 million in a radiation oncology center.

The new Community Cancer Care Radiation Oncology Center provides 10,000 square feet for radiation oncology with patient-focused expertise by our team of radiation oncology specialists. The Center is immediately adjacent to the medical oncology center that opened in the fall of 2013.

Michelle Proper, MD, a Billings Clinic radiation oncologist, has moved to Missoula and leads the radiation oncology team to care for patients at the new Community Radiation Oncology Center. Dr. Proper, a board certified radiation oncologist, previously practiced at the Billings Clinic Cancer Center and is excited to join the community of Missoula.

“We look forward to this expansion of our ongoing relationship of providing cancer care with Community,” said Randall Gibb, MD, Chief Medical Officer and gynecologic oncologist at Billings Clinic. “This is a perfect opportunity for us to be able to have one of our physicians bring her expertise and experience to the team and the patients that come to Community Medical Center for their cancer care.”

Steve Carlson, Community CEO said, “Over the last several years, our oncology program has continued to grow to the point that we needed to provide a comprehensive cancer center to treat our patients. Unfortunately, cancer is a disease that is predicted to increase as our population ages, and we want to ensure that our patients have access to the best care available.”

Oz Architects was the architect for the project and Swank Construction completed the construction.

A public open house will be held on August 19 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. with tours of the beautiful new addition to the Community Cancer Care Center.
