Anesthesia Services
Billings Clinic’s Department of Anesthesia, in Billings, Montana, provides outstanding patient care via a care team of physician anesthesiologists working in collaboration with certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). In addition to our full-time staff, we augment our resources with experienced and certified anesthesiologists and CRNAs who come here on a part-time or temporary basis, as needed.
An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in administering anesthetics, the medical treatments and procedures that prevent pain and awareness during surgical procedures, endoscopies, and labor and delivery. Anesthesiologists take care of you before, during and after your surgery. Physician anesthesiologists spend four years after medical school as residents to learn the art and science of anesthesia. Some will train for an additional one to two years to further subspecialize in areas such as pediatrics, cardiac, obstetrics, intensive care, or pain management.
A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is a registered nurse who has completed an accredited nurse anesthesia training program. Nurse anesthetists are advanced practice nurses, with a master’s or doctoral degree, who specialize in providing anesthesia care in their nursing practice. CRNAs work in collaboration with physician anesthesiologists.
Billings Clinic offers a full range of surgical and procedural services to our patients; our anesthesia department cares for all of them, both outpatient and inpatient, at Billings Clinic Hospital and Billings Clinic Surgery Center.
