Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Most babies are born healthy. But occasionally, some newborns are premature or have health problems and need special care. Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care unit (NICU) provides monitoring and intensive medical attention for newborns who need comprehensive care.

Billings Clinic offers access to a wide range of pediatric specialists and pediatric specialty care including ophthalmology, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, and pulmonology. The babies in our NICU could be born as early as 25 gestational weeks or could be full-term.

Board-certified neonatologists and pediatricians, supported by a highly qualified staff, tend to these tiny newborns round-the-clock. Support staff include occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, case managers, lactation consultants, and dedicated social workers. Dedicated pharmacy staff serve our Women's and Children's services including NICU, Labor and Delivery, and Pediatrics.

The new NICU, located next to the Family Birth Center on the second floor of the hospital, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide a more advanced, family centered approach to neonatal care. At 9,550 square feet and with capacity for as many as 19 total patients, it offers 14 spacious, private patient rooms that allow families to stay closer to their babies while maintaining privacy. Rooms include natural light, a modern design and advanced technology aimed at creating a calming, healing environment that supports the complex needs of newborns. This is the direct result of the community’s generosity, starting with the 2021 Billings Clinic Classic and culminating in more than $4 million in philanthropic contributions to build the new unit.
