Influenza a (flu) - Children 6 months and older should get a flu vaccination by the end of October. Some children may need two doses of flu vaccine. Your health care provider can tell you if your child needs two doses.
Pediarix: A combination vaccine to help prevent diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and polio.
- Diphtheria can cause very bad throat infections that can cause the airway to close and can cause heart failure and paralysis.
- Tetanus can cause paralysis of muscles and jaw.
- Pertussis can cause whooping cough and can also cause pneumonia, seizures and brain damage.
- Hepatitis B can cause severe liver disease that can lead to liver failure.
- Polio can cause permanent paralysis and meningitis.
Hib: Helps prevent Haemophilus influenza type B (can cause pneumonia and severe infections of the airway, heart, blood, and bones.)
Prevnar 13: Helps prevent infections by pneumococcal bacteria (can cause ear infections, pneumonia, and meningitis).
RotaTeq: Take it by mouth to help prevent rotavirus (can cause severe diarrhea in infants).
DTaP: A combination vaccine that helps prevent diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough.
Varicella: Helps prevent chickenpox (can cause severe skin infections, pneumonia, and brain damage).
MMR: A combination vaccine that helps prevent measles, mumps and rubella.
- Measles can cause ear infections, pneumonia, seizures, and brain damage.
- Mumps can cause deafness, meningitis, painful swelling of the testicles or ovaries, and rarely sterility.
- Rubella can cause miscarriages and congenital disabilities.
Hepatitis A: Helps prevent Hepatitis A (a liver disease that can lead to liver failure).
Kinrix: Helps prevent diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, and polio.
ProQuad: A combination vaccine that prevents MMR and Varicella
Tdap: Helps prevent tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough.
Menveo: Helps prevent meningococcus (can cause meningitis, particularly in college-age kids).
Gardasil: Helps prevent human papillomavirus (can cause cervical cancer).
Bexsero: Helps prevent Neisseria meningitidis (meningitis B).
