About The DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.) During Pat’s 8 week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Pat but to everyone in his family.

The BEE Award (Be Extraordinary Everyday) was established to recognize staff that support care of patients and families. The Bee Award honors Nursing Assistants, Medical Assistants, Technicians, Mental Health Workers, Unit Clerks and Non-Clinical staff.

The team member you nominate for the BEE Award:

• Exemplifies a positive attitude that inspires others
• Promotes teamwork amongst staff
• Creates caring connection with patients and families
• Always a hard worker

All nominees are presented with a BEE pin that they are asked to wear on their uniform each day so that others are aware of their extraordinary work. At least quarterly, outstanding nominations are chosen to receive special recognition by their peers and these nominees also receive a certificate and a jar of honey.
