Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Information

Billings Clinic offers access to a wide range of pediatric specialists and pediatric specialty care including ophthalmology, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, and pulmonology. The babies in our NICU could be born as early as 25 gestational weeks or could be full-term.

Board-certified neonatologists and pediatricians, supported by a highly qualified staff, tend to these tiny newborns round-the-clock. Support staff include occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, case managers, lactation consultants, and dedicated social workers. Dedicated pharmacy staff serve our Women's and Children's services including NICU, Labor and Delivery, and Pediatrics.

For Referring Providers

Billings Clinic NICU's neonatologists provide comprehensive care for premature and sick babies. Advanced technology and treatment at our Level III NICU includes hi-frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide for pulmonary hypertension, and full body cooling for HIE. Our neonatologists are available 24/7.

Staff Education and Training

Billings Clinic NICU has one of the highest numbers of BSN nurses nationally as well as certified nurses (certified through a national certifying board) trained in high risk neonatal care. In addition, staff receive hi-fidelity training in our simulation lab.

MedFlight Transporation

Transport of premature or ill infants from a referring hospital is available by ambulance or with the Neonatal MedFlight Team. A specialized team of neonatal intensive care nurses and registered respiratory therapists assist in transferring babies from an outlying hospital to the 19-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Billings Clinic.
