Legion Against Cancer
Playing from the heart
There is a special group of children in our community known as Kelker’s Kids. These pediatric patients inspire others to rally behind their fight, as they battle cancer and other serious blood disorders. These courageous kids bring out the very best in crosstown baseball rivals, the Scarlets and the Royals. These two teams and their junior partners, the Cardinals and Blue Jays, kick off summer for a cause, raising money for Kelker’s Kids, a pediatric cancer patient assistance fund held at Billings Clinic Foundation. Under the dedicated leadership of community volunteer Tammy Stacey, this passionate group of athletes and volunteers unite around America’s favorite pastime in support of these kids and their families.
Tammy believes Legion Against Cancer encourages the players to feel passion and commitment to something other than themselves and the game. The emotion and pride they feel the night of the game is electric. Players wearing ceremonial jerseys with the name of a Kelker’s Kid or family member across the back, stand tall next to their honoree during a special ceremony. There is not a dry eye in the ball park as balloons honoring their cancer journey are released into the night sky. Over the years, Legion Against Cancer has raised over $45,000 benefitting many of our cancer patients and their families. Assistance helps with travel expenses related to their medical care, household bills, or support of experiences that allow our young patients to experience the joys of childhood. Kids helping kids, what a beautiful way to spend a summer night in Billings.
