Preliminary Residents
Our program prides itself on providing preliminary residents with thoughtful training designed to provide a solid foundation for their future practice.
- All rotations/blocks are 3 weeks in duration. The breakdown of rotations and number of blocks spent in each is as follows:

- Preliminary residents will work in teams with Categorical residents in all rotations except subspecialty blocks (when there is only one resident on at a time).
- Compared to the Categorical resident schedule, the Preliminary schedule:
- Contains 1 additional inpatient block
- Contains 1 less subspecialty block
- Preliminary residents do not have a continuity primary care clinic. They will only work in the primary care clinic during their Ambulatory Medicine block.
- Preliminary residents will attend all didactics with their categorical resident counterparts. Please see the “Didactic Curriculum” page for more details.
