What is golf fitness?
Golf fitness isn’t about looking like a bodybuilder or the best player on Tour. It’s about being fit to play the game at an individual’s highest level and doing so without causing injury. It’s about understanding how a body’s limitations can influence the golf swing and how to address those limitations through the proper channels; whether through swing instruction, physical rehabilitation or strength and conditioning exercises. It’s about understanding the latest technology and how that technology can be implemented to increase performance.
What is Titleist Performance Institute Certification?
Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certification is an evidence-based, educational pathway designed to teach industry professionals how to increase player performance through a deep understanding of how the body functions during the golf swing – a concept known as the Body-Swing Connection™. Darren Hackey, DPT, is TPI Certified. Darren uses TPI’s 16-point physical assessment screen to evaluate a golfer’s physical readiness and correlates the results of the assessment with the player’s swing characteristics. Physical limitations that may prevent the golfer from having a consistent, reproducible golf swing are identified. A personalized Home Exercise Program (HEP) is then developed to address any issues. Darren works closely with golf pros/coaches to optimize the player’s performance.
16-point TPI golf assessment screen
The 16-point TPI golf assessment screen is a physical evaluation that breaks down the individual physical components of a golf swing and assesses the golfer’s ability to perform them. The evaluation involves an assessment of biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, and a review of previous injuries. It identifies the player’s physical limitations and can help explain the reason for pain and/or difficulty with the golf swing.
Home Exercise Program
After a review of the TPI assessment screen, a personalized Home Exercise Program (HEP) is designed to address the golfer’s physical limitations. Treatments thereafter would continue to focus on the golfer’s physical and functional limitations.
